1. Why was the world premiere held at Lakeshore Cinema?
The world premiere of Voyage to Betterment was held in November 2009 at Lakeshore Cinemas in Lakeshore, Ontario, just a ten minute drive from central Windsor. Lakeshore Cinemas is an independent 10 screen multiplex theatre locally owned and operated by good people that care about others. Lakeshore was willing to show our movie after they saw the trailer because they instantly recognized that the movie was designed to help people. So even if it performed worse than the multi-million dollar Hollywood productions Lakeshore was still willing to air it at their theatre as it fits with their mandate to be of service to the community. 2. How did the premiere go? Fortunately Voyage to Betterment outperformed all movies other than 2012 and Christmas Carol. More importantly the viewer response after seeing the movie was tremendous. Many people were moved by the movie and some came back to see the movie 3 times in one week. Our movie is obviously not going to be as polished as typical $10 million movie productions, so our focus was on the content and the majority of viewers seemed to understand this. On CinemaClock of the 17 reviews made, 16 loved it, most giving the movie a 10/10, and one person hated it, giving it a 1/10, bringing the average down to 9.4. Still, it was the highest rated movie in North America proving that there is a significant market for a movie with a purpose made with grit and heart. In addition, we have received dozens of positive emails, letters, posts and comments. So thrilled was Lakeshore that they have asked us to return January 15 to 28, 2010. 3. What is your next step? Dec 2009: The Voyage to Betterment was filmed in Digital High Definition and we currently have the movie available only in DVD or Blu Ray Disc format available for Independent Theatres that have a Blu Ray player and projector capability. The movie is not available this time in traditional "film". Independently owned theatres are often more willing and flexible to move over a standard "film" projector and temporarily insert a Blu ray player and projector. Because showing a movie in this capacity is not standard, there are only a limited number of theatres in North America willing to do this. We are exploring the possibility in screening the movie at other independents in other cities and will keep people updated in our screening sections of this web site. 4. People from around the world are now asking: "When is Voyage to Betterment coming to my city?" Most theatres in North America currently use solely traditional "film" players and projectors. The cost to convert our movie to film would be approximately $50,000 plus $1500 for each film copy. Large film distributors will attempt to open at first run theatres across North America on the same day and so will make 3000 copies of the film which is about a $5 million investment just in film. We are a self funded venture and can't afford a multi-million dollar investment in film alone. A good option for independent productions to successfully launch at theatres across North America is to partner in some capacity with a large established distributor. However, distributors can not be expected to fork out millions of dollars in film costs without solid proof that the film can sustain itself at theatres. So each time we have a successful run at an independent theatre it helps build the proof that this movie can be distributed to theatres across North America. So "in due course" is the best answer we can give. 5. Aren't movie theatres moving away from film? Not really. Most movie theatre are heavily invested in film. Some multiplex theatres are purchasing expensive digital projectors but reserving its use for Disney type 3D movies. But, some newly opened theatre complexes such as AMC are completely digital and as such, it will allow independents such as us to affordably distribute into these venues. Again we are exploring all options for distribution and will keep people updated on our screenings and news blog sections of our web site. 6. When can I buy the DVD of Voyage to Betterment? The DVD or Blu Ray will not be made available until we fully explore the potential to distribute the movie in theatres. This will not likely be until the end of 2010. We will keep people updated on our web site. The best way of knowing is to simply Reserve Your Copy by providing your name and email in the Buy DVD section of the web site. This is non binding and you do not need to provide a credit card. This will simply allow us to notify you by email when a DVD becomes available. 7. What can we do to help support the movie? If we can show a potential distributor that there are thousands of people lined up to purchase a DVD when it becomes available then this will help us land a deal to have the movie distributed in theatres across North America. So the best thing you can do is to reserve your copy of a DVD, refer other people to the site and have them reserve a copy of the DVD. Simply go the the Buy DVD section of the web site and provide your name and email. Again, this is non binding and you do not need to provide a credit card. This will simply allow us to notify you by email when a DVD becomes available. 8. We loved the movie. Can we contact Oprah or help spread the word? Sure. It's no "Secret" that when a book or a movie makes it to the Oprah show that signficant awareness is created. When we interviewed Dr. Hawkins, he was just recently interviewed by Oprah, and he advised us that Oprah calibrates very high, at levels of pure love, and as such, she has the highest rated TV show on Hawkins scale of consciousness. The Voyage to Betterment prominently features Hawkins throughout the movie and would be ideally suited for her show. If you are so inclined, feel free to email Oprah or other suitable venues about our web site and have them contact us at andrewfacca@gmail.com if they are interested in doing a story. Certainly shows such as Oprah get bombarded with requests so if you know Oprah or someone that knows Oprah it would be easier to get a messaage to her. Also, if you are connected to any major league movie distributors feel free to contact them directly, alerting them to this opportunity. A good C.E.O. may have the intuition to spot a good opportunity and wish to start discussions with us early. 9. I know hundreds of people that would want to see the movie, what can I do to help bring it to my city? Dec 2009: There are basically two things that would need to be done at this time. One is to find a suitable independent theatre that is willing to show the movie then to create awareness for the movie. If there is anyone that wishes to volunteer their time to coordinate this in their city we can mail you a bunch of posters to distribute to yoga studios, chiropractor offices, fitness centres, health stores etc. Then, it would simply be a matter of setting up a local Facebook event for your city and getting a couple thousand people to join it, and helping spread the word in any way possible. Talking to the local media and getting the local paper to write a story on the movie would be ideal. The goal is to ensure that the theatre fills enough seats to keep it there as long as possible. If you are interested, please email us at andrewfacca@gmail.com 10. Are you willing to discuss the making of your movie with our class or our group? Dec 2009: We are certainly willing to talk to any TV, newspapers, radio or other media as well as community groups, high school or university students interested in the movie. We can even meet face to face with many groups in our local area and may even consider the occassional out of town trip for such. For enquires contact us at andrewfacca@gmail.com |
